In the 112 years of Olympic history, new events were added every now and then, but the core of the Games is still way too traditional that it’s not keeping pace with the evolution of culture, technology, and the demand for higher level of challenging and adventurous sports.
Much of 2008 Summer Olympics’s success was attributed to the hosting country’s effort in organizing the event, building the infrastructures and venues, and its opening ceremony. It has set such high standards for future countries to surpass its excellence. Perhaps adding a few new events would spice up the Games. Here are just a few ideas:
Trampoline diving
Synchronized floor gymnastics
Indoor skiing
Water tennis
Sky soccer
Extreme ping pong – with grenade
Competitive archery
Underwater boxing
Free-cycling – cycling on top of buildings
Volcano canoeing
Blindfolded equestrian
Taser fencing
Water hockey
Headball – only use the head to play soccer
Drive-by shooting – not cool…
Land rowing
Water cycling
Nintendo (instead of Judo or Taekwondo) – wii sports, and other video gaming
Men’s synchronized swimming
Postmodern hexathlon – sky diving, land rowing, water cycling, mountain climbing, tightrobe walking, and bungee jumping
